History & Timeline:

1898 : Salvatore Ferragamo was born June 5th, 1898 in Bonito, a small village near Naples, in the South of Italy.


1915 : Salvatore leaves for the States aboard the Stampalia.

1923 : After joining his brothers in the US, Salvatore Ferragamo opens up the Hollywood Boot Shop. He quickly becomes known as the "Shoemaker to the stars".

1927 : Salvatore Ferragamo returns to Italy, settles in Florence and founds the Ferragamo Company.

1938 : Salvatore Ferragamo buys Palazzo Spini Feroni, and it becomes the headquarters. The same year Salvatore creates the famous "Rainbow" sandal for Judy Garland, just one year after registering the patent for the cork wedge heel.

1947 : Salvatore Ferragamo receives the Neiman Marcus Award in Dallas for the "Invisible" sandal.

1950 : Ferragamo has gained international success; celebrities like Audrey Hepburn and the Duke of Windsor visit the boutique in Florence.

1960 : After Salvatore Ferragamo's death, the company was led by his wife, Wanda and their children.
Ferragamo begins producing handbags.

1961 : The first scarf featuring Palazzo Spini Feroni is produced.

1967 : Fiamma Di San Giuliano Ferragamo - Salvatore's first child - is awarded the Neiman Marcus Prize.

1970 : The company begins producing men’s shoes, clothing, silk and accessories continuosly.

1979 : The "VARA" becomes the company’s most iconic and famous shoe.

1986 : Ferragamo Hong Kong is founded and marks the beginning of international expansion.

1987 : The first bag to boast the famous "Gancini" symbol is produced.

1995 : The Salvatore Ferragamo Museum opens at Palazzo Spini Feroni, and is dedicated to shoes brand history.

1998 : Salvatore Ferragamo parfums and eyewear are established in the market.

2003 : Salvatore Ferragamo enters the watches market.

2006 : The Ferragamo Creations Collection is launched: an exclusive collection of Ferragamo's most well-known historic styles offered in a limited & numbered edition.

2010 : opening of the first single-brand stores in Turkey (Istanbul), Qatar (Doha), Egypt (Cairo) and South Africa (Johannesburg), and the goal of 91 single-brand stores reached in Greater China.

2011 : Salvatore Ferragamo S.P.A is listed on the Italian stock exchange, Borsa Italiana S.p.A.

2017 : Paul Andrew is named as Creative Director Women’s collections and Guillame Meilland Men's RTW Design Director.

2018 : Micaela le Divelec Lemmi is appointed Chief Executive Officer.
