Women's 2.6 oz Pressed Body Powder (Tester). Chanel No 5 is the first perfume in the floral-aldehyde group and the first by the quantity of aldehydes in its composition (another legend says that the Ernest Beaux's assistant overdosed the aldehydes in the composition by mistake). The top notes are composed of aldehydes bergamot lemon neroli and ylang-ylang the heart of jasmine rose lily of the valley and iris while the base is created of vetiver sandalwood vanilla amber and patchouli.

1920 the Grand Duke Dmitri Romanov introduces Coco Chanel
to the Russian / French perfumer Ernest Beaux in Cannes.

Ernest Beaux presents different bottles.
Chanel chose the bottle No. 5.

When Beaux asked her how she wanted to name that scent, she replied:
"I always launch my collection on the 5th day of the 5th months,
so the number 5 seems to bring me luck therefore, I will name it N 5".

1921 the first version of Chanel N°5 comes alive,
The perfume is intended to be a Christmas present to the best Chanel clients.
Initially only 100 flacons were produced.

Chanel offers small samples to her Boutique clients.
Her clients love the perfume but Coco Chanel doesn't have the knowhow
to produce larger quantities.

1924 at the racetracks of Longchamps Coco Chanel is introduced
to Pierre Wertheimer by Theophile Bader.
Pierre and his brother Paul Wertheimer own of the perfume house Bourgeois,
Theophile Bader is the founder of the Galeries Lafayette Department store.

Chanel n° 5

1924 is launched "Parfums Chanel".
Ernest Beaux brews the perfume,
one of the first ones to mix natural and artificial essences.
Coco Chanel designes the bottle,
the octagonal cap recalls the geometry and proportions of the place Vendôme.
The jewish businessman, Pierre Wertheimer provides the financing and
gets a 70% interest in the Chanel Perfume business.
20 % are hold by Théophile Bader.
Coco Chanel licenses her name and expertise for 10%.
Parfums Chanel are a different company seperate from the fashion house.

1924 Jean Helleau designes the bottle.

Chanel N°5 becomes a world success.
